SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

Contains accounts of an anonymous hardware merchant who dealt in supplies used in fishery industries in or near Boston, Massachusetts.  Items sold include, for example, herring nets, mackerel knives, cod lines, and seine twine.  Other items such as axes, buttons, and handsaw files also appear.  Leaves 73-139 contain rough manuscript drafts of seven stories or essays on miscellaneous topics, including: havoc wreaked by a merino ram gone loose; voting and buying votes; a fishing trip by two boys; revivals and religion; and women's rights.
