SCOPE AND CONTENT

This account book was kept by the unidentified owner of the sawmill at Bartlet's Brook near Duxbury, Massachusetts, from 1717-1740. Entries note the amount of lumber sawed into planks and boards which were sold to various customers. Oak slitwork, cedar boards, spruce boards, and planks were frequently mentioned. One page documents the oak slitwork for a barn including posts, rafters, and sills. Entries for the year 1725 appear upside down at the end of the volume. These entries document such work on the mill as mending troughs, "fitting up mill," "drew stones with oxen," "mending doggs," and "making a swoop."
