BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

 

Ford Barnes was a cabinetmaker, probably from the Baltimore, Maryland, area during the 1820s.

 

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

This manuscript was compiled by cabinetmaker Ford Barnes between 1827-1829.  It primarily documents the amounts owed to Barnes for furniture he made.  Some entries include a description of items, revealing that Barnes made tables, beds, cradles, candle stands, book cases, poplar coffins, pine chests, and bureaus from cherry or walnut.
