BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

 

James Ballantine resided in Johnstown, probably the one in New York.

 

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

Consists of two small accounts book and thirteen loose accounts primarily documenting the construction of a commercial store.  The majority of the entries list wages paid for days of labor.  Materials noted include steel, sand, lime, bricks, paint, and lumber.  Also mentioned are framing, setting glass, ironwork, and painting.  A few of the miscellaneous items appear to be personal, documenting lamb, beef, whiskey, and clothing purchased.
