STATEMENT
Charles L. Barritt was listed as “actuary mec. inst.”
in New York City directories of 1844 and 1845.
He was interested in photography and experimented with new methods in
it.
SCOPE AND
CONTENT
Consists of a copy of the paper about the
daguerreotype delivered before the New York Scientific Association on Jan. 20,
1845 by Charles L. Barritt. The lecture
outlines the development of the daguerreotype process and names those prominent
in its evolution. Also included is a
letter from Barritt to Charles T. Harris, Secretary of the New York Scientific
Association, dated Oct. 29, 1844. In the
letter, Barritt apologizes for missing a meeting and requests the time and
place of the next meeting.
