BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

 

Lewis Page was a toy merchant in New York City.

 

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

Consists primarily of letters ordering toys and related wares from France, Germany, and England.  Many are signed by John W. Holber for Lewis Page.  Additional letters seem to have accompanied bills or invoices.  Sometimes patterns and/or samples were requested.  Such items as dominoes, rope dancers, small animals, tin magic lanterns, paper dolls, varnished heads for dolls, leather dolls, swords, painted pistols, chessmen, caricatures, dancing jacks, small standing soldiers and pewter or lead toys are noted.  In addition, references are made to miniature furniture.
