BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

 

Mrs. Fred Patterson resided in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.

 

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

Recipe and scrapbook kept in a memoranda book of Howard & Co.'s Express.  Although the bulk of the clipped and handwritten recipes are for entrees, breads, and desserts, remedies and household hints are also included.  There are also newspaper clippings of poetry, sermons, and reports about local events, a miner's strike in Pottsville, and the results of the 1870 census of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.  Six wood cut illustrations of local sites and events and a map of coal regions are also in the volume.  A label for the McLaughlin Brothers' Steam-Power printing establishment, Philadelphia, Pa. is in the front of the volume.
