Wills and estate inventories of Shakers living in the Hancock, Massachusetts; and New Lebanon and New Canaan, New York communities.  A Shaker will was drawn up to confirm the surrender of property made at the time an individual joined the Society.  Some wills mention children and wives.  Most follow a formula specifying that the property left to the deacons was to be used to educate children, support orphans, and provide relief to the poor.
