BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

 

Wendy Ann Cooper retired as Lois F. and Henry S. McNeil Senior Curator of Furniture at the Winterthur Museum in 2013.  She graduated from Brown University and received her master’s degree in the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture.  Prior to returning to Winterthur as furniture curator, she had worked at the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), Colonial Williamsburg, and the Baltimore Museum of Art, where she had served as curator of decorative arts.  She also guest curated exhibits at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

 

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

Research papers pertaining to the exhibit “Paint, Pattern, & People,” and the accompanying book of the same title.  The exhibit, which was mounted in 2011, focused on furniture made in southeastern Pennsylvania between 1725 and 1850, and the people who made and used the furniture.  The papers include photos, copies of wills and inventories, genealogical information, correspondence, and other information gathered during the process of putting together the exhibit and the book.

 

           

ORGANIZATION

 

The papers are in two series: I. general research files; and II. files pertaining specifically to photographic figures in the book.
