BIOGRAPHICAL
STATEMENT
Patricia T. (Trish) Herr is a noted expert on the
textiles and decorative arts of southeastern Pennsylvania. Born in Schenectady, New York, she received
her doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Cornell University. She and her husband Donald M. Herr established
an animal clinic in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, from which she retired around
2003. After setting up her home in this
new location, Trish Herr became interested in the textiles and decorative arts
of the area. She became a collector,
researcher, author (books and magazine articles), and antiques dealer. She served as a member of the board of
trustees of the Heritage Center Museum of Lancaster, and worked on various
committees and exhibits for that institution.
She worked and consulted with other museums as well.
SCOPE AND
CONTENT
Research papers and photographs amassed for the
exhibit “Rags to Rugs” held at the Heritage Center Museum of Lancaster, Penn.,
and the book of the same title, published by Schiffer Publishing in 2008. The exhibit and book featured hooked rugs and
other handsewn rugs made in Pennsylvania.
Files focus on collectors and makers of rag rugs, and drafts of the book Rags to Rugs: Hooked and Handsewn Rugs
of Pennsylvania. As well, there are
compact disks with photographs of rugs.
ORGANIZATION
Files on collectors come first, followed by files on
makers, and then files pertaining to the exhibit and the book.
