Joanna Rowntree, also known as Joanna Green, was an art conservator specializing in sculptures.  She received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and art history from the University of California at Berkeley and received her master’s of science degree in art conservation from the Winterthur Museum/University of Delaware program in 1995.  She served internships at the Hirshhorn Museum and the Museum of Modern Art and worked for the Winterthur Museum, the Johnson Atelier Technical Institute of Sculpture in New Jersey, and the Sculpture Conservation Studio in Los Angeles.  At the time of her death on May 20, 2006, she was working at the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas.  She was the daughter of Paul and Caroline Rowntree.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The bulk of the collection are student notebooks and treatment reports prepared while Joanna Rowntree was a student in the WUDPAC program or while she worked for Johnson Atelier, as well as a few other treatment reports and some papers about internships.  The treatment reports are accompanied by photographs of the works being treated.  As well, there are slides from a presentation she did while a WUDPAC student.  The student notebooks deal with metal objects, organic objects, and wood.  There are also some articles on various conservation subjects.
