BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

 

Charles Percier and Pierre François Léonard Fontaine were French engravers, draftsmen, and painters who specialized in architectural subjects.  They were frequent collaborators.

 

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

Black-and-white photographs of an album containing Neoclassical designs in the style of Percier and Fontaine, the original of which is at the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University.  The designs are for rooms, including a bathroom, mantels, a bed with curtains, a sofa or daybed, furniture legs, a globe stand, ceilings, and statues of Athena and Zeus.  One drawing depicts a woman reading in a Neo-classical room.  Another sketch shows a monumental building near a river.   

 

 

ORGANIZATION

           

The photos are in the same order as they appear in the original album.  The Fogg Museum assigned page numbers to the sketches.
