SCOPE AND CONTENT
Collection consists chiefly of
research files accumulated by Margaret Fikioris while she was textile
conservator at Winterthur Museum. Her interests in national disaster
planning and historic design sources for window treatments and bed hangings are
highlighted. Copies of Fikioris’ lectures and papers are also present. Student notes and textbooks from her studies
under James Rice at the Textile Museum form part of the collection as well. (Some of her papers were determined to be
office records and were therefore transferred to Winterthur Archives.)
ORGANIZATION
Papers are in five series: I.
general files; II. disaster planning files; III. correspondence; VI. books, articles,
and pamphlets; and VII. Photographs and
slides.
Textile curator and Winterthur
Conservation Department files (formerly series IV and V) were transferred to
Winterthur Archives in spring 2019, and are no longer a part of this
collection. Additional Winterthur
information might also be found in Series I, as it was not always possible to
isolate the Winterthur information into series IV or V.

Most of the materials are in English. Some books and pamphlets are in Swedish,
Italian, and other European languages.
