BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

Dr. Lewis E. January was a descendant of Thomas Janvier, a French immigrant who settled in New Castle County, Delaware in the late 17th century. Dr. January researched his family history and corresponded with others who were also interested in the Janvier and January families.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

In researching his family genealogy and history, Dr. Lewis January compiled this collection.  It includes his correspondence, photographs, notes, printed materials, and photocopied items relating to the January and Janvier families who, for the most part, originated in Delaware and Kentucky.  The original surname of the family was Janvier, but Peter Janvier appears to have been the descendant who anglicized the name to January.  Peter was an early settler of Kentucky.  A computer generated family chart is included.
