BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

The firm of Kimball & Gould was located in Topsfield, Massachusetts during the mid-19th century.  The owners were William Kimball and Andrew Gould.  More specifically, these men seem to be William Estey Kimball and Andrew Gould, two men who were listed in the 1850 census for Topsfield, Essex County, Mass.  In this census, they lived next to each other and both were listed as traders.  William Estey Kimball (1805-1895) was married to Mary Ann Reed, and they had four children.  Andrew Gould (1805-1896) was married to Mary Prudence Lake, and they had twelve children.  Gould later became a farmer.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

This small collection of bills documents purchases made by Kimball and Gould between 1847-1849.  Items noted include china, glassware, lamps, cigar stands, lumber, buttons, thimbles, and other notions, as well as a variety of dry goods,  including  flannel, sheeting, plaid, gingham, vesting, cambric, diaper, and Alpaca.  A bill for dying a laine shawl, a linen dress, and a pair of socks is also part of the collection.  Other bills note harness, carriage, and wagon repairs.  Many of the bills have printed billheads.  One bill, dated 1859-1860, was sent to Kimball and Perkins.
