BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

The Scharff family apparently consisted of three school-age orphans, Emma, John, and William, who lived in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, during the mid-19th century.  Their guardian was John Mosser, and the executor of their inherited estate was Jacob Zartman.  All were enrolled in Meyerstown Academy.  John also went to Franklin and Marshall College.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

This collection contains bills, receipts, and an expense book documenting goods and services purchased for members of the Scharff family.  Most bills were for food, clothes, dry goods, or schooling.  The bills for school mention subjects studied, progress, and tuition.  The expense book was kept by Jacob Zartman, and it documents the amount paid for the various goods and services noted on the bills and receipts.
