BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

 

The Tooker (Tucker) family lived in the New York City area in the early 19th century.  In New York City directories, Daniel Tooker was listed as living on Mercer Street, but no occupation was listed.  Peter and Peter McCartee, Jr., were both listed as curriers living at 12 Jacob Street.   Alternate spellings of McCartee and Tooker are McCarty and Tucker.

 

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

This collection contains bills, receipts, promissory notes, and legal documents of Daniel, Charles, Peter, and Martin Tooker and Peter McCartee of the New York City area gathered between 1811-1822.   Miscellaneous bills and receipts are for food, clothing, medical care, funeral expenses, and pew rent. McCartee was apparently a courier who made payments on behalf of the Tookers.
