BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

 

Albert H. Olds and Alfred A. Olds of Hartford, Connecticut, were possibly father and son.  The father, Albert H., was known to be a clerk and his son, Alfred A., was a bookkeeper during the mid 1870s, possibly for Charles L. Willard’s retail stove and furnace business in Hartford.

 

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

This collection of printed and manuscript bills and receipts was acquired by the Olds family of Hartford, Conn., between 1864-1894.  Most of the items are from Hartford businesses.  The goods and services purchased include meat, groceries, clothes, doctor's visits, gas and water, street sprinkling, church pew rent, dental work, promissory notes, hardware, lumber, and stove supplies.  Also included are an exercise in bookkeeping methods and a rental agreement.
