BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

The College of Urban Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Delaware administers the university's Center for Historic Architecture and Engineering.  The center contracts with agencies to document historic buildings.  Students enrolled in its historic preservation program are required to complete a set of line drawings to learn Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) standards for architectural drawings.  From 1985 to 1990, students were required to document Quaker meeting houses.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The collection consists of 63 pencil drawings of historic homes and homesteads as well as Quaker meeting houses located in southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware.  The sketches were made as part of various recording projects.  The meeting houses were drawn by students as part of the requirements for a master's degree in Historic Preservation.  Later renditions were sent to the Library of Congress to be part of the Historic American Buildings Survey.  All the drawings are in pencil on 100% rag paper.  The scale of the drawings is 1/4" to 1 foot.

ORGANIZATION

The collection is arranged by building.  Each building has its own record in Virtua, in addition to the overall record for the entire collection.
