This
artificial and still open collection contains printed watchpapers. Watchpapers are
small printed paper inserts that were placed in pocket watches to protect the
inner works from dust. They were printed
with the name and address of the watch maker or watch repairer. A date was often handwritten on the
reverse. Some were illustrated, often
with allegorical figures or pictures of watches. Most of the ones in this collection date from
the first half of the 19th century and were made in Massachusetts or Conneticut.
