BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT

 

Gertrude Hawks was married to Francis L. Hawks; she was the grandmother of Ruth Wales du Pont.

 

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

Consists of correspondence, a will, photographs, and social records showing Gertrude H. Hawks' relationship with her family.  Correspondents include Ruth Wales, Ruth Wales du Pont, Edward Wales, and Montgomery Hawks.  The collection also contains photographs of Gertrude H. Hawks and Dr. John H. Hawks.

 

 

 

ORGANIZATION

 

Collection is arranged in five series and within each box, folders are arranged alphabetically by folder title.   Series 2 contains corporate records produced by businesses; series 3 holds correspondence; series 5 original manuscripts; series 7 holds photographs; and series 8 hold publications, such as books.   Series 1, 4, 6, 9, 10, and 11 are not represented.  The original finding aid to the collection, done in MSAccess, appears at the end of this finding aid.

 

 

PROVENANCE

 

Collection is owned by the Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur Museum.  It was assembled over years, from 1969-1974 by transfers and gifts from various sources: in 1969, from the clerical division of the Wilmington, Del. Office of Henry Francis du Pont and the H.F. du Pont House; in 1972, from the office of the properties and gardens divisions at Winterthur; in 1973, from the H.F. du Pont House; and in 1974, from the Gray Building and a gift.
